The Inca Trail is a 25-mile (40-kilometer) trek through the landscapes of southeastern Peru. The sheer variety of the scenery that can be experienced along such a relatively short route, combined with the matchless historical legacy of so many archaeological sites concentrated into a single region, has made the Inca Trail globally famous as one of the world’s best hiking routes.

The Inca Trail is a trek through a mountainous region, involving hiking for 5-7 hours a day at high altitude and over rough terrain. You should be well prepared and healthy prior to starting the hike to Machu Picchu. You’ll need to be fit and to exercise regularly before your trek, and it is also important to be well acclimated before starting the Inca Trail. We recommend spending 2 or 3 days in Cusco prior to starting the trek.
