The 5 most impressive landscapes in Peru (and how to get there)

March 4, 2025

Peru is a country full of contrasts, with landscapes ranging from imposing mountains to lush jungles and endless deserts. If you are a nature and adventure lover, here are ten of the most impressive landscapes in the country and how to get there.

  • Machu Picchu: The most famous Inca citadel in the world, nestled between mountains and surrounded by lush vegetation.
How to get there: Train from Cusco to Aguas Calientes and then a bus or walk to the entrance.

  • Sacred Valley of the Incas: A fertile valley full of history, with traditional villages and archaeological sites such as Pisac and Ollantaytambo.
How to get there: Easily accessible from Cusco by car or tourist transport.

  • Colca Canyon: One of the deepest canyons in the world, home to the majestic Andean condor.
How to get there: From Arequipa, a four-hour drive to the Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint.

  • Tambopata National Reserve: A biodiversity paradise in the Amazon rainforest, ideal for wildlife watching.
How to get there: From Puerto Maldonado, a boat trip along the Madre de Dios River.

  • Nazca Lines: Giant figures traced in the desert, representing animals, plants and geometric shapes, visible only from the air. Their origin remains an enigma, and some believe they had an astronomical or ritual purpose.
How to get there: From Lima, you can take a bus to Nazca (approximately 7 hours’ travel time). To appreciate them in their entirety, it is advisable to take a light aircraft flight over them from the María Reiche aerodrome.
