How trekking contributes to inclusion

By opening the Peruvian Andes to the world, we seek to bring benefits for local people

As a Peruvian travel company with more than 35 years’ experience, at Andean Adventures Peru we are always looking for new ways to include local communities in the tourism destinations where we operate our treks, tours and excursions in Peru.

In this way, we work to help local people, so that they benefit directly from tourism and improve their empowerment, through training and employment.

Any tourist destination or product that calls itself sustainable must consider the environment and local populations. The goal is to create a positive impact, by conserving nature and culture, and at the same time including them in the economic development of our country. Andean Adventures Peru is a Cusco-based tour operator, with more than 35 years in the Peru travel market. The “product” that we offer to the thousands of tourists who entrust us with their Peru vacation is Cusco; our center of operations, and our home, because we are from Cusco.

By operating our trekking and hiking services in the high Andean zones of the Cusco region, we contribute directly to the preservation of the ancestral knowledge and traditional ways of life of the pastoral communities who are the inheritors of Inca culture.

Thanks to our activities in these areas of incomparable natural beauty and cultural wealth, the preservation of this pastoral heritage has been ensured. Responsible travel activities such as ours, based on the principles that underpin sustainable tourism, have resulted in the creation of weaving associations, ensuring that women from Andean communities can preserve their ancestral knowledge while contributing to the economy of their families, through the sale of their beautiful artworks in alpaca and llama wool.

In addition, the creation of wrangler associations has been encouraged, so that the community members themselves are in charge of providing the horses, llamas and mules that transport everything necessary for the operation of the trekking routes we offer.

Residents have also been trained in guide services, and they work with us as porters, cooks and auxiliary camping personnel, in addition to providing their services to different tourism companies. In this way, we ensure the inclusion of Andean communities in the tourism industry, and the continuation of the ancient culture of the Peruvian Andes.

At Andean Adventures Peru, by inviting tourists from all over the world to discover the beauty of our culture and nature, we are also seeking to create opportunities for community development in our home: the incomparable region of Cusco.
